THIRD SUNDAY CONCERT MAY 18

The Third Sunday Concert Series at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington closes its 2007-2008 Season on Sunday, May 18 at 5 p.m. with a lively performance by The Rites of Swing.

Members of the group are John Rankin on guitar, Rick Perles on violin, Dave Rebek on mandola, Gilbert Buras on guitar, Greg Smith on bass, and Yvette Voelker on vocals. Voelker is also a member of the Pfister Sisters.

Founded in New Orleans in 1996, the six-piece string band plays gypsy jazz, Cole Porter, blues, traditional New Orleans jazz, swing, and Brazilian swing. They have played at festivals and clubs throughout the New Orleans area, including the Columns, the Maple Leaf, Donna’s, Café Brasil, and Le Chat Noir. They can be heard at the Spotted Cat on most Sundays between 4 and 6.

All concerts in the Third Sunday series are free, open to the public, and followed by a reception where the audience can meet the performers.
