THE ANGILRAY TRIO TO PLAY THIRD SUNDAY
The Angilray Trio, a harp, cello and flute trio, will perform in the Third
Sunday Concert Series at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington on Sunday, October
21 at 5 p.m.
The trio consists of Catherine Anderson on harp, Sarah Gill on flute, and Karen
Ray on cello. They will perform Trio in G Major by Franz Joseph Haydn, the Trio
pour Flute, Harpe et Violoncelle by Jean-Michel Damase, and the Suite Francaise
by Paul Bazelaire.
Catherine Anderson received a BM and MM in harp performance from Indiana
University and performs with a wide variety of ensembles in the New Orleans area
including the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Mobile Symphony, the Jefferson
Performing Arts Society, the New Orleans Musica da Camera, the New Orleans Trio,
and the newly formed chamber music groups Musaica and Angilray. Ms. Anderson
keeps a busy teaching schedule with students at Tulane University and University
of New Orleans and in her private home studio. She has served on the board of
the American Harp Society for the last six years and is current President of the
New Orleans Chapter.
Sarah Gill teaches flute at the University of New Orleans and is on the music
faculty at both Tulane University and Loyola College. She holds degrees from
Millikin University, University of North Texas, and Florida State University.
Sarah won first prize in the 2005 Kentucky Flute Society Young Artist
Competition and was a semifinalist in the 2004 National Flute Association Young
Artist Competition.
Karen Ray appears with the Windsor Chamber Players, the Louisiana Philharmonic
Orchestra and on the vielle with the early music ensemble, New Orleans Musica da
Camera (MDC.) She lived for six years in Germany where she played with the
Siegerland Orchestra and at the Koln Opera. She appears frequently as soloist
and chamber musician on various recital series in New Orleans and on the gulf
coast and has taught at both Loyola and Tulane Universities and at the
University of New Orleans. On recent recordings, in addition to having been
included as cellist on the last three CDs of singer Trish Genco, Karen can be
heard playing vielle on MDC's latest CD and playing cello and vielle on the
latest release by Celtic singer Betsy McGovern.
All concerts in the Third Sunday series are free, open to the public, and
followed by a reception where the audience can meet the performers. Childcare is
provided for children under six years of age.
The series is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the
Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and
Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by
the St. Tammany Arts Commission.
