BRASS CONCERT IN THIRD SUNDAY
SERIES

The Third Sunday Concert Series at
Christ Episcopal Church in Covington will host the Southeastern Brass on Sunday,
December 16 at 5 p.m.
The all-faculty quintet will choose among a collection of diverse music for the
evening's performance to include interesting and captivating arrangements of
Holiday favorites as well as other works for brass quintet.
Performing will be Bryan DePoy on trumpet, Casie Forbes on tuba, Logan Place on
trumpet, Frederick Wild on horn, and Timothy W. Schneider on trombone.
Bryan DePoy is currently the Assistant Dean for the College of Arts, Humanities,
and Social Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana University. He earned a Bachelor
of Music Degree from Indiana University, the Master of Music Degree from the
University of New Mexico, and the Doctor of Music from Florida State University.
Dr. DePoy became a member of Southeastern’s music faculty in 1999 after serving
on the faculty at Delta State University from 1993-1999. He was the Professor of
Trumpet at Southeastern prior to assuming his current position. As an
accomplished musician and teacher, Dr. DePoy has performed and given clinics
abroad, including Australia, England, and Sweden. In addition, he has a wide
variety of performance experience, including performances with orchestras such
as the Memphis Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, and the Spoleto Festival
Orchestra. Additionally, he has been a regular member of the Saenger Theater
Orchestra, and has performed with such legends as Mel Torme, Barry Manilow, and
Yanni. He has recorded with the renowned New Mexico Brass Quintet and the jazz
vocal group Five By Design. Dr. DePoy’s former students, which number in the
hundreds, are currently performing or teaching across the country, and several
have continued their graduate studies at prestigious institutions such as
Indiana University, the University of Maryland, and Howard University.
Casie Forbes is among the newest generation of female tuba soloists in the
United States today. In December of 2003, she earned a Masters of Music degree
in tuba performance from Louisiana State University where she studied with Dr.
Joseph Skillen. Prior to this, she was a student of Dr. Kenneth Kroesche at
Western Carolina University, where she received a Bachelor's degree. In the fall
of 2004, Ms. Forbes began her teaching career as the Instructor of Tuba and
Euphonium at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. She is also the Music
Director at St. John Catholic School in Plaquemine. In addition, Ms. Forbes
assists at local high schools around Baton Rouge and teaches for the Salvation
Army. As an emerging artist, Ms. Forbes has competed around the country, as well
as in Canada. In 1998, she was selected to give her first performance in
Carnegie Hall in New York City with the National Wind Ensemble. She was
Runner-up in the Music Teacher's National Association's National Brass Solo
Competition in 1999. In the following year, Ms. Forbes spent her summer
performing with the Walt Disney Collegiate All Star Band in Orlando, Florida and
won the Jackson County Civic Orchestra's Concerto Competition performing as a
soloist with that orchestra. In 2003, she was a semifinalist in the Hellam Young
Artists' Competition in Springfield, Missouri. Currently, Ms. Forbes is the
Assistant Band Director at Fountainebleau High School in Mandeville.
Logan Place is currently the trumpet instructor at Southeastern Louisiana
University. Prior to his arrival in 2007, Mr. Place worked as an active
freelance musician and teacher in Texas and Arkansas. He holds a Bachelors
degree in Music Education from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia,
Arkansas, a Masters degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of North
Texas, and has completed studies toward a Doctorate in Trumpet Performance from
the University of North Texas. Mr. Place has performed with numerous orchestras,
wind ensembles and chamber groups, including the South Arkansas Symphony
Orchestra, Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra at Park Cities, and the
Little Rock Wind Symphony. Additionally he can be heard on recordings with the
University of North Texas Wind Symphony, University of North Texas Symphonic
Band, and the University of North Texas Baroque Orchestra. As an active Baroque
Trumpet performer Mr. Place has performed with the Orchestra of New Spain and
the University of North Texas Baroque Orchestra. In 2005 Mr. Place won the
Fantini Division of the Baroque Trumpet Competition held every year as a part of
the National Trumpet Competition in Fairfax, Virginia.
Frederick Wild is in his third year of teaching and his second year as the
talented music instructor at Northshore High School. Previously, he was the
Assistant Director of Bands at Fontainebleau High while concurrently serving as
the horn instructor at Southeastern. Mr. Wild graduated cum laude from Loyola
University in 1998, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. After
receiving his Master’s in Music in French Horn Performance from Florida State
University in 2000, Mr. Wild pursued a career as a professional musician and has
performed with many ensembles throughout the south including the Tallahassee
Symphony, Florida West Coast Symphony, Savannah Symphony, and the Symphony of
Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). Since returning to his native New Orleans
Mr. Wild has performed with Josh Groban, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra,
and the Jefferson Performing Arts Society. In addition to his teaching duties at
Northshore High School, Mr. Wild is the Assistant Principal Horn of the Gulf
Coast Symphony.
Timothy W. Schneider is the Principal at Fontainebleau Junior High School in
Mandeville. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University
of New Orleans, a Master of Music Education from Loyola University in New
Orleans, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Leadership and
Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
Before assuming his current post, Dr. Schneider was the Assistant Principal and
Director of Bands at Northshore High School. Dr. Schneider has also served as
Instructor of Trombone and Euphonium at Southeastern Louisiana University from
1993 – 1995. In 1995, Dr. Schneider was honored as Bandmaster of the Year by LBA
and was chosen Teacher of the Year at Northshore High School in 2001. Dr.
Schneider is currently the principal trombonist with the Jefferson Symphony
Orchestra, a regular member of the Saenger Theater and Tulane Summer Lyric
Orchestras, and a substitute with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. He has
performed for such artists as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Frankie Valle, and
the Temptations. He was a founding board member of the Musical Arts Association
of Slidell and a member of the Slidell Community Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble.
All concerts in the Third Sunday series are free, open to the public, and
followed by a reception where the audience can meet the performers.
The series is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the
Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and
Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by
the St. Tammany Arts Commission.
