THE GENESIS OF A COMMUNITY
At a recent luncheon, Christwood honored the last of its original Board
members as they retire: first Board President The Rev’d L. Stephen Holzhalb
III, Suzy Graham, and Greg Gregory.
Board Member Anne Butts, in a narration entitled “The Genesis of a
Community,” told the story of Christwood’s beginnings – from the inception
of the idea by the Rev’d Holzhalb and the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church
in 1989, through the investigative process, through the actual opening of
its doors to its first residents in 1996, to the present and future plans
for the community.
Prior to the luncheon, Tom Breslin and the Resident Council presented the
three honorees hand made plaques in appreciation of their work.
Christwood, the only Continuing Care Retirement Community on the Northshore,
was the first of its kind to be licensed in Louisiana. It consists of 119
apartments (11 different floor plans) with 20,000 square feet of
recreational, educational, and social areas. The Arbor is comprised of 30
Assisted Living apartments and 20 private nursing suites.
