Christ Episcopal Church March 27, 2000 CHRIST CHURCH RECEIVES AWARD OF APPRECIATION On Sunday, March 26, directors from Heifer Project
International (HPI), a nonprofit organization that works worldwide to alleviate hunger and
poverty through the gift of livestock and training in its care, visited Christ Episcopal
Church in Covington to present an award to the parish for their exemplary contributions to
the program for the past 5 years. Alice Mae Britt, Regional Director of Heifer Project International, and Frankie Reynolds, Education and Development Manager for Heifer Ranch, made the presentation. The organization was founded by Dan West while serving as a Church of the Brethren relief worker during the Spanish Civil War. According to HPI, he was assigned to pass out powdered milk to the children on both sides of the conflict and grieved when the supply of milk ran out with children still waiting in line. It occurred to him that, "Not a cup, but a cow" was needed. This simple idea lives on as the cornerstone of HPIs mission today.
Members and friends of Christ Church have
supported Heifer Project International for the past five years by purchasing animals of
all sizes and types in the name of friends or family as gifts for Christmas,
anniversaries, birthdays, etc. If you would like to know more about this project, call the
Christ Church office at 892-3177. |
