OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH

Christ Church Youth
Welcome to Christ Church Youth's website!...

Christ Church Youth (CCY)

Junior Christ Church Youth (Jr. CCY) is for all 6th - 8th graders. It provides them with opportunities for socializing, worshiping, and serving others in the context of Christian community. Weekly gatherings are on Sunday evenings from 2:00 to 3:15 during the school year. We take a week long mission trip during the summer (Mission BEYOND).

Senior Christ Church Youth (Sr. CCY) is for all 9th -12th graders. It provides them with opportunities for socializing, worshiping, and serving others in the context of Christian community. Weekly gatherings are on Sunday evenings from 3:15 to 4:30 during the school year. We take a week-long mission trip during the summer (Mission BEYOND).

Joint CCY Meetings typically happen once a month. This is a time for all CCY members to share a meal together and enjoy fellowship time. Dinner is provided by volunteers.

Way Out Wednesdays (WOW) Come join the congregation for dinner at 6:00 pm every Wednesday and then come join the youth group for a time of fellowship, study and games. Our activities change from week to week, so check the calendar for this week’s activity.

For more information on any Youth events or activities, please do not hesitate to contact Daniel Ciufi, Youth Coordinator, at 985-892-3177.

Youth Christian Formation

Journey to Adulthood is an innovative spiritual formation program for young people grades 6th though 12th, including three classes: Rite 13, J2A, and Young Adults in Church (YAC). Classes meet on Sunday morning at 10:15. The program is designed around 4 key areas: Self, Sexuality/Gender, Spirituality and Society. Bringing scripture, tradition, and reason together with experience, young people are given tools and skills necessary for the Journey. For more information contact Daniel Ciufi @ 892-3177.

Rite 13 (Grades 6 & 7): This material is based on a 2 year celebration of “The Gift of Manhood or Womanhood”. It includes a “Rite 13 Ceremony” which begins the process.

J2A (Grades 8 &9): Study becomes more serious during these two years. Part of the curriculum includes preparation for Confirmation.

Young Adults in the Church (Grades 10 -12, confirmed): Emphasis in these two years is on Christian community and living out the Baptismal Covenant. Time will be spent with a mentor learning more about the various ministries in the church.

For more information about Journey to Adulthood, contact LaVondra Dobbs (892-3177 or ldobbs@christchurchcovington.com), who provides leadership for this ministry.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the Rites offered as part of the Journey to Adulthood program (see above). Confirmation is a mature decision of faith for which careful preparation is required.

Other Youth Opportunities

Youth Band CCY band, under the direction and leadership of Scott Gardner, performs for our "Youthcharist" once every other month. New members welcome. Call Daniel Ciufi @ 892-3177 for more information and the practice schedule.
The Acolyte Program provides our young people with an opportunity to participate in our liturgical life. All baptized persons, in the third grade or above, are eligible. Adults also serve in this ministry. Once trained, acolytes assist at Sunday services and at other services throughout the year. Their ministry is to lead the processions and to assist the priests during the service. To find out more, please call Philip Wild at 892-3177.

Boy Scout Troop 193 is sponsored by Christ Episcopal Church.

We meet on Monday nights throughout the school year in the Christ Church Youth Center. All boys at least 11 years old or in 5th grade or above are invited to join us for a meeting and to learn more about our troop! In addition to camping, hiking, whitewater rafting, and canoeing, you’ll learn how to lead others as you develop your skills. For more information, contact Andrew Boyd at 893-4401 aboyd@timespicayune.com.
