Music is an integral part of worship, not mere ornamentation. St. Augustine said, "The one who sings prays twice." Historically, the liturgy of the church has been sung. Christ Church seeks to maintain that tradition. Christ Church is committed to the highest standards of worship possible, and accordingly, the highest standards of church music. The Choirs of Christ Church lead the congregation in worship at the Sunday Eucharists and at other designated services throughout the year. Each of the choirs is made up of volunteers dedicated to the ministry of music. The Parish Choir sings the 11:15 a.m. Sunday Eucharist, the Christmas Eve midnight Eucharist, the Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil services, Evensongs, and funeral services. Many choristers also serve as cantors for the psalms and the service music. The Parish Choir rehearses from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursdays in the Choir Room in St. Cecilia House and again each Sunday at 10:15 a.m. in the church. For information about all the choirs or other music ministries, contact Carolyn Parmenter at quilisma@bellsouth.net or (985) 892-5297. The Family Choir leads the singing at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Eucharist. This choir is open to all including families and children 10 years of age or older. They rehearse at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the church. For information, contact Carolyn Parmenter as noted above. The Third Sunday at Christ Church is a concert series consisting of eight 50-minute programs beginning at 5:00 p.m. each third Sunday of the month from September to May. Programs vary from chamber, choral, organ, and orchestral music to jazz and gospel. followed by a short wine and cheese reception for guests and performers. The concerts are open to the public free of charge. Support of this series can be made through membership categories and donations. For more information call Margaret Mashburn at (985) 807-5714.
