Sr. Wardens Report/Vestry Highlights
|
Sr. Warden’s Report – January 2003 Vestry Meeting The Vestry noted the removal of walls on the ground level of the classroom building at the lower school, as approved at the December meeting. Those classrooms had been unusable for some time due to flooding problems. The area will be equipped with picnic tables and ceiling fans to allow use for lunchroom/picnic area and outside classrooms. Outside repairs to the former Art Association Building (CCC new Administration Building) began in early January. Not too surprisingly, some under the porch beams had to be replaced as did a termite-damaged sill, and brick supports needed re-mortaring. The handicap ramp will be widened to code, the porch re-planked and railings in place, and the building repainted. Work is progressing well; the weather cooperative. Vestry voted to wait until additional pledged money is “in hand” before work begins inside-both Vestry and Dick Mayer are optimistic that will occur before completion of the outside. When the inside is complete and the staff moved, work will begin immediately on the new nursery and youth spaces. Design /motif/colors have been chosen for the nursery; the youth will help pick for its space. A very tight 2003 Budget of $561,750 was adopted-- $20,000 less than 2002. Cost effective measures implemented everywhere. There are still a sizable number of parishioners pledging in the past who have not returned their commitment for 2003 which has made our budgeting somewhat uncertain. We are all aware that this past year has not been financially easy for many of our parishioners but we ask that all remember to put the work of God through His Church at the top of your priorities. We urge everyone to prayerfully make a commitment in order that our church can go forth in its planning. More details will follow in subsequent publications. The Vestry decided to consider construction of our second Habitat House at the September vestry meeting. Although CCC has committed to the building of a second home; we did not feel that the funds from the capital campaign were available right now for us to proceed in the Spring of 2003. We encourage interested parishioners to work with other sponsors this spring and summer. Parishioner concerns as expressed to vestry members were brought forward and discussed, with the clergy and vestry committed to active listening and response. As always, the priests encourage parishioners to speak directly to the clergy whenever there is a concern or problem. We are truly blessed with loving support from congregation and clergy as we move Christ Church forward in God’s work. Liz Taurman, Senior Warden |
