Sr. Wardens Report/Vestry Highlights
|
Sr. Warden’s Report – March 2004 Vestry Meeting Despite income tax season….good news came in March. Generous parishioners stepped forward to underwrite the construction costs for the handicap ramp to the St. Cecilia House. Margie Valliant is coordinating the project with a great deal of patience and professionalism. The Boy Scouts have already removed the old shrubbery around the building; they will also paint the ramp and help with the landscaping. Friends of Christ Church II reported that they are still seeking some donations for the handicap side entrance to the church. The concrete has been poured. For any of you who have tried to help elderly and/or handicapped people into our church, you know how difficult it is. This generous band of brothers, including Paul Gariepy, Choose Taurman, Tom Schwer, Scott Chotin, Skip Scoggin and Jere Shopf, saw the need and jumped in to handle the project. Even though Father John’s sabbatical started after Easter Sunday….we had a joyful Bon Voyage for him in March. Judy Shopf rounded up the MOB and put on a wonderful send-off. For those of you who do not know what the MOB is, it is a group of ladies who assisted Mother Pamela and Jerry Snare with their wedding. We called ourselves the “Mother-of-the-Bride” committee and the name became MOB. We have eight outstanding candidates for vestry. The election will take place during our annual meeting Sunday, May 2. Election results will be announced following the conclusion of the 11 a.m. service. Please make every effort to be there. A resolution by Father John was passed at our vestry meeting which read, “The Vestry of Christ Church expresses its heartfelt thanks to Father Robert Odom for his ministry at Christ Church Covington and wishes him and his family well in their new endeavor.” Much applause followed. Two financial motions were passed. One was that the vestry was to task the Finance Committee with reviewing all Christ Church funds to determine feasibility of transferring funds to the endowment fund and make a recommendation at the May vestry meeting. The other was to remove the current $100,000.00 minimum investment restriction previously imposed on the Endowment Fund by the vestry and authorize the Endowment Committee to invest endowment funds (regardless of fund’s current value) at the most favorable growth rate available. Some of your tax dollars will be going to help fix the sidewalk in front of the St. Cecilia building. J. P. Warner followed up on this project and got it going. There’s a lot of good news here at Christ Church! Aggie Richards, Senior Warden |
