Sr. Wardens Report/Vestry Highlights
|
Sr. Warden’s Report – April 2004 Vestry Meeting Our April vestry meeting was the first one during Father John’s sabbatical. Your senior warden presided over the meeting and though our rector is missed, the business of the church is going on as usual. It’s always helpful for all of us to remember that God really is the One in charge. Mark Mercante, Christ Church’s dedicated and hard working Chancellor, reminded the vestry at our April meeting of how we operate when the rector is not here. Basically, Mother Pamela handles all of the pastoral concerns and your senior warden deals with the business/legal aspects of parish life. I am senior warden up until the May 17th vestry meeting at which time traditionally our junior warden is elected senior warden and a new junior warden is elected. Father Odom reported that the youth group continues to grow. The media center in the youth facilities will be finished by mid-May and the mission trip to Sewanee fund raising is on track. Please take the time to pick up the 2004 Christ Church annual report. It is published each year in time for the annual meeting held the first Sunday in May. By the time this article appears in the Illuminare we will have elected four new vestry members (biographical sketches of each of the eight candidates appear in the annual report, as well). Reviews from each of the committee heads are included and give you a good idea of how active and mission-filled our church community is. In April, the vestry elected the slate of candidates nominated by the Christ Episcopal School Board Nominating Committee. They include Jane Robinson, John Murphy, Robert Hoffman and Suzanne Jones. Congratulations to the new school board members. And congratulations as well to our new vestry members! This will be my last vestry report. It has been a privilege and joy to serve as your senior warden. For all of us, it’s been a busy and productive year. Special thanks go to my fellow outgoing vestry members, Fran Paddison, Tim Wolfe and Greg Williams for their three years of service. Personally I’ve moved into a new house, sold an old one, had two grandchildren born, remodeled parts of the new house and all along enjoying my year of service as senior warden. Whenever things got tough, it was always clear Who really was in charge. May God’s Peace be with you…… Aggie Richards, Senior Warden |
